Opening reception: Saturday, June 9, 2018 * 6p-9p

For this exhibit, artist Olga Ponomarenko’s second featured spot, we will be treated to small meditative paintings of animals. This playful show explores how urbanization damages wilderness and forces wild animals to adapt to a citified existence.

Her paintings speak of the the ephemeral joys of daily life and are set within the ordinary doldrums of human existence. All of Olga’s paintings will be housed within a handmade and hand painted decorative mushroom frame.

Olga will be joined by a wonderful group of artists that will also explore how animals discover magic within the mundane of human existence.

Many of our furry and feathered friends have been evicted from their habitat by an exploding human population who in their search for progress are destroying their natural environment. In turn wildlife are forced into ‘residential areas’, placing their own and their neighbors’ pets in jeopardy, in order to find food for survival.

‘Water’ Themed Group Show and 10th Annual Frogtown Art Walk

Water
Scheduled to run August 13 – September 1, 2016
Opening reception: Saturday, August 13, 2016 * 4p-10p

In conjunction with the 10th Annual FROGTOWN Art Walk, and the CURRENT:LA Public Art Biennial, Cactus Gallery will be hosting a show in which artists were asked to create works that center around the theme of water.

The Frogtown Art Walk – now celebrating its tenth anniversary – is a yearly free tour of the studios of the artists and artisans of Elysian Valley (Frogtown).

The BOWTIE parcel which is just on the other side of the L.A. River from Cactus Gallery is one of the sites chosen for CURRENT: LA Water, Los Angeles’ first citywide Public Art Biennial. The biennial runs July 16 – August 14, so the art walk was scheduled to overlap this event and we are complementing the idea via a water theme.
